The Avalon Hotel in Erie

Our History

Avalon Hotel and Conference Center has a unique history among hotels in Erie, PA.

Once known as the Lawrence Hotel, this location became famous to the area when presidential hopeful Massachusetts Senator John F. Kennedy stayed in September of 1960. His purpose to visit this historical downtown location was to perform a speech at the intersections of 10th and Peach where thousands of locals and visitors attended. Eventually the Lawrence Hotel was torn down and the location site was rebuilt as Erie Hilton.  Since 1994, the property has been known as the Avalon Hotel and Conference Center and has been a shining independent hotel catering to the all the visitors of Erie! The property is planning to transform into the Erie DoubleTree by Hilton and look forward to serving you many more years of luxury accommodations.
